VOICE TRAINING FOR

MISC.

How the Voice Works

A basic knowledge about the structure of your voice is essential for using it to its fullest potential.

    Anatomy of the Voice

What bones, muscles and other body parts allow you to use your voice for singing or speech?

    Sound Waves and Phonation

Voiced sound begins when air released from your lungs starts a vibration in your vocal cords (folds).

    Breathing and the Voice

Breathing muscles are the big workhorses in good voice production. Knowing what they are and where they are is essential because a major secret to controlling your voice is learning to control your breath.

    Resonance

Resonance (secondary vibrations) gives your voice the carrying power and warmth that makes it sound "warm," "silken," or "velvet."

    Articulation and Diction

Articulation simply means to form sound, syllables and words with the muscles of your lips, cheeks, tongue, jaw and soft palate, and diction is the level of clarity in the pronunciation of your words.

How to Train the Voice

It's more simple than you might think, even if you feel like your voice is awful, because just about ANYONE can learn how to improve pitch. It's really about mind over muscle and finding the right information.

    Starting the Tone

How you start or release the sound of your voice determines its quality. Explanations and tips in this section can help you.

    Supporting the Tone

Development of your breathing muscles impacts how well you sing or speak. This section has specific exercises to learn how to use them to your best advantage.

Pitch Perfect and Not So Perfect Pitch

Why can one person sing on pitch naturally and not another? What if you think you're tone deaf? Is it possible to train better pitch recognition? Can babies hear and match pitches? Find answers here.
