How the Voice Works
A basic knowledge about the structure of your voice is essential for using it to its fullest potential.
What bones, muscles and other body parts allow you to use your voice for singing or speech?
Voiced sound begins when air released from your lungs starts a vibration in your vocal cords (folds).
Breathing muscles are the big workhorses in good voice production. Knowing what they are and where they are is essential because a major secret to controlling your voice is learning to control your breath.
Resonance (secondary vibrations) gives your voice the carrying power and warmth that makes it sound "warm," "silken," or "velvet."
Articulation simply means to form sound, syllables and words with the muscles of your lips, cheeks, tongue, jaw and soft palate, and diction is the level of clarity in the pronunciation of your words.
How to Train the Voice
It's more simple than you might think, even if you feel like your voice is awful, because just about ANYONE can learn how to improve pitch. It's really about mind over muscle and finding the right information.
