"Hope is definitely not the same thing as optimism. It is not the conviction that something will turn out well, but the certainty that something makes sense, regardless of how it turns out - Vclav Havel, Czech playwright

One of the most common disorders that people write to me about is hoarseness or a raspiness in the throat. It's important to know the difference between hoarseness and laryngitis, as well as a few of the common disorders you might encounter.

Knowing when to see an ENT (Eye, Ear, Nose Throat doctor) or an otolaryngologist makes a difference in how you might approach a disorder, so find out what spasmodic dysphonia and laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR) are, or what causes nodules, polyps, cysts and throat cancer.

Deciding how to treat stuttering, autism or other language disorders and finding the best SLP (Speech-Language Pathologist) can be overwhelming, so knowing about the resources that are available and what you need to look for in a speech therapist can help lessen some of the stress associated with these challenging disorders.
